I know that if this blog goes viral, I will probably be receiving lots of nasty mail. I really expect it.
My take on unions is they are outdated and hurting people more than they are helping. Last year it was Pro football players, this year "right to work" states and collective bargining. Nurses, teachers the list goes on and on.
80% of the time the people going out on strike want job security or bigger pay checks. Most people in non-union jobs are takeing cuts in pay or forced to work less hours and they are happy just to have a job.
My career was in the auto parts business. No union, no job security, if you wanted more money you went to work for the competition. If you wanted a better vacation package or better retirement package, you went to work for the competition. Job security was not even in my career dictionary.
My father, who was a state employee, was a union guy. He was a highway designer for PennDOT. Back in the 50's,60's and possibly the 70's, my father had to be registered with what ever party was the majority in the state at the time. He was a Republican, but if the Dems were in power, he would register and vote as a Dem.
I think it goes without saying that unions are past their prime, take notice to the Asian car market.
I love my American car, I could if I wanted to buy a Toyota or a Honda and be purchasing a car that was built without union labor.
